OMISSION OF ARTICLES.
1.      The Article is omitted before names of substances and abstract nouns.
Examples:  a. Gold is an expensive metal.
                     b. Knowledge is more valuable than money
                     c. Death is the penalty of sin.

2.      Before plural countable nouns used in general sense.
Examples: a. Children like ice cream.
                    b. Guards are employed for the protection of the campus.

3.      Before most proper nouns.
Examples: a. Gopal is a good cook.
                    b. Rahim is my next-door neighbor.

4.      Before meals
Examples: a. I had lunch at 2 PM.
                    b. Dinner is ready.


5.      Before languages.
Examples: a. We teach English grammar.
                    b. They speak Spanish at home.

6.      Before school, college, university, church, temple, bed, hospital, prison, when these places are visited or used for primary purpose.
Example: a. I learn computer at school.
                  b. He goes to church every Sunday.

7.      Before names of relations like father, mother, uncle, aunt etc.
Example: a.  Father has reached Delhi.
                  b. Aunt wants to see you.

8.      Before predicative nouns denoting a unique position.
Examples: a. He was elected President of the club.
                    b. Peter became principal of the college where he had graduated from.

9.      In certain phrases consisting of a transitive verb followed by its object.
Examples: a. to take bath.
                    b. to post letter.

10.  In certain phrases consisting of a preposition followed by its object.
Examples: a. At home
