Today we are going to discuss the position of adjective in an English sentence,  position of adjectives rules, position of adjective worksheet and much more. Lets begin the topic POSITION OF ADJECTIVES now.

a.      Attributive position of adjectives: An adjective used attributively is placed immediately before the noun.
Examples: See the underlined portions in the below sentences.

i.                    The chief guest has arrived.
ii.                  My best friend is very emotional person.
In the above sentences the adjectives chief, best and emotional have been used attributively and they have been placed immediately before the nouns guest, friend and person respectively.
b.     In poetry the adjectives are frequently used after noun.
Example:  See the underlined portion in the following sentence.

i.              Children dear,
Do not fear.

c.       When several adjectives are attached to one noun, they are sometimes placed after the noun for emphasis or settlement.
 Example:  See the underlined portion in the following sentence.
i.                    There lived a big lion, brave and fierce.
ii.                  The noble king, fearless and brave, resolved to dye for his subjects.

d.     When there is an adjective phrase to qualify a noun, there is surely an adjective inside the phrase to master the whole phrase, in such cases the adjective is placed just after the noun.
Example:  See the underlined portion in the following sentence.
   i. He was a boy, poor but laborious.
  ii. A soldier, braver than anybody else in the troop, said we must go ahead.

e.     There are some unlawful phrases where adjectives come after the noun and there are no certain rules behind it.
Example:  See the underlined portion in the following sentence.
Lord paramount, Notary public, God almighty, Time international etc.
