Absolute superlative degree of Adjectives.

                           
ABSOLUTE SUPERLATIVE

Today our topic is absolute superlative.  Just see the following examples:

i.                   This is the easiest thing you have been said to do.

ii.                 Rahul is the silliest boy in this class.

Example i,   we are talking about the thing that you have been said to do. There is no other thing to compare with,  despite that we have used here the superlative degree “easiest”,  just to intensify the quality of the easiness of the thing to execute, as much as possible.

Now come to example ii, here we are actually not talking about any other silly boy except Rahul in his class, but despite that we have used the superlative degree “silliest” , just to signify the quality of silliness to it’s highest extent.

Such usage is called ABSOLUTE SUPERLATIVE.

More examples:

This is the hardest chore to execute.

Neha is the sweetest girl.

This is most intelligent answer.
