EMPHATIC AND REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS

Before we go deep into the topic, know a simple thing; when –self is added to my, him, her, it and –selves is added to our, your, them as suffix, we get the forms of pronoun what we call COMPOUND PERSONAL PRNOUN.
These types of pronouns can be either EMPHATIC PRONOUN or REFLEXIVE PRONOUN in nature.  See the examples below.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUN
I cannot forgive myself for this. Here the action of forgiving is being reflexed towards myself. When an action reflexes towards the subject of the sentence we compound personal pronouns; as,
i.                    He could not find himself in the photo.
ii.                  She wrote herself a letter.
iii.                They drowned themselves in the bankruptcy.
iv.                We love ourselves.
In all these cases the personal compound pronouns have been used as reflexive pronouns.

EMPHATIC PRONOUN
I myself saw him picking your pocket. Here the action of seeing is being emphasized by the  compound personal pronoun MYSELF, when an action is emphasized by using personal compound pronouns; as,
i.                    He himself caused the loss in the business.
ii.                  They themselves ruined their business.
iii.                She herself told that she was busy.
iv.                I myself informed him to meet the headmaster.
In all these cases the personal compound pronouns have been used as emphatic pronouns.

MORE EXAMPLES OF REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS.

i.                    I hurt myself.
ii.                  We promised ourselves.
iii.                You will love yourself.
iv.                He cursed himself.
v.                  The monkey saw himself in the mirror.
vi.                Jawahar awarded himself.

Must notice that in the above sentences, each of the REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS are functioning as the object of the verb, or the receiver of the action of the sentence. One more thing that is noteworthy is that, in all these cases the verb is transitive and the doer and the receiver of the verb is the same person or thing. Later we will discuss more about transitive and intransitive verb very soon, please stay adhered with us.

v.                  He himself said this.
vi.                She herself denied to go.

It must be noted that here compound personal pronouns are used for the sake of emphasis. So, they are called emphatic pronoun.
