Examine the following sentences..
i. He lost the gold coin. &
ii. He lost the coin, which was made of gold.
i. He lost the gold coin. &
ii. He lost the coin, which was made of gold.
Try to understand the difference between the underlined portions of the above sentences. As per the lessons we have gone through earlier, it is clear that the underlined portion in the first sentence, ie. the gold coin is a phrase because it creates some sense but doesn't contain any action word inside. Now examine the underlined portion in the second sentence, ie. the coin, which was made of gold. See that in this portion there is an action word , ie. was , where there is an action word in a meaningful group of words , it must have a subject and predicate combination. In the above sentence which stands for the gold coin and it is the subject in this portion and the predicate is was made of gold. Here the coin, which was made of gold is a clause.
Definition of clause: A clause is a group of words , and it is the part of a sentence, the group of words must have an action word among them and they together create a subject & predicate relationship.
See the examples below and their underlined portions..

3. I have forgotten where I have kept the prescription.
4. We were tired and we wanted rest.
5. He will do or he will die.
