ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE
What
is VOICE?
What
is ACTIVE VOICE?
What
is PASSIVE VOICE
Answer:
Compare the differences between the sentences below.
i.
Peter
likes Daniel.
ii.
Daniel
is liked by Peter.
These
two sentences express the same meaning in two different ways. In the first sentence, the subject PETER
does the action of LIKING, in the second sentence the subject DANIEL does the
action of receiving the LIKE to him. Briefly; in the first sentence the SUBJECT
is the DOER of something and in the second sentence the subject is the RECIEVER
of something.
When the
subject of a sentence is the DOER of the action in the same sentence, the
sentence is in ACTIVE VOICE.
When the
subject of the sentence is the RECIEVER of the action in the same sentence, the
sentence is in PASSIVE VOICE.
Must
note that if a sentence is in ACTIVE VOICE, it cannot be in the PASSIVE VOICE
at the same time, and vice versa.
VOICE is
that form of verb that tells us whether the action in a a sentence is done by
or done to the subject of that sentence.
When the
action of sentence is done by the subject, the sentence is in ACTIVE VOICE.
When the
action of the sentence is done to it’s subject, the sentence is in passive
voice.
